I WILL BE HAVING MY SURGERY 10/25/2012  I AM EXCITED, BUT VERY NERVOUS, AND DOUBTFUL ABOUT THIS WHOLE PROCEDURE.  I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AT A SIZE 24-28 AND I CANT IMAGINE BEING SMALL.  I WOULD LOVE TO GET TO A SIZE 12-18  BUT I JUST CANT IMAGINE MYSELF THAT SIZE.  I CANT EVEN REMEMBER BEING THAT SMALL.  BUT MOST OF ALL I WANT TO BE HEALTHY.  AFTER BEING UNSUCCESSFUL WITH THE LAPBAND IM JUST REALLY TRYING TO BE POSITIVE ABOUT THIS PROCEDURE, AND HOPE THAT IT WORKS.  ANY ADIVCE OR ENCOURAGEMENT ANYONE?

You're going from the form of WLS with the very LOWEST success rate to the procedure with the very HIGHEST success rate. I don't think you have anything to worry about! (*grin*)

The fact that the lapband was unsuccessful shows that your body was way worse off than simple "Fork-in-Mouth-Disease".  The DS is going to change the way your body metabolises food, and it will no longer hold on to every calorie with a kung-fu death grip.  You're going to be overwhelmed with the results!  I'm a Halloween DS baby, so I'm coming up on my 7yr anniversary, starting off as a size 24-16 and now settled in size 10-12 (sometimes 8, mostly 10 or M)

thank you so much for the encouragement  i see that you got down from a size 24 to a size 10! in one year. that is awesome.  so how was your work out schedual? how often did you work out?  did you have a drastic change of lifestyle as far as your eating, and working out? also was there anything you did to prevent loose skin? if so then what?

It actually took about 14 months total, and I got down to a size 8.  My bounceback got me back up to a 10 and I"ve been here for a couple of years with little effort.  I never worked out - however as I became smaller, I did become a lot more active.  I'm like the energizer bunny now.  I've been a corporate trainer, so I work a regular office schedule, but travel from time to time.  I can assure you that gas and poop has never made me skip a beat.  I'm pretty regular at doing my "dooty" in the morning, and when teaching, never experiment with simple carbs, and no gas problems when standing in front of a group speaking.

I am also having my surgery on the 25th. I am so nervous and excited. The surgery process has been nerve wracking. The Dr. found out many things wrong when he started looking. My gall bladder needs to be removed, a hernia fixed and he told me I am diabetic (news to me) so very nervous with all these new worries but keeping hopeful that this surgery will be the answer. Good Luck to you!

funny, about a year ago I was tested and told I wasn't diabetic, but when I was in the hospital, it turned out I had developed it . . . but once they completed the surgery, I stabilized and don't have to worrry about type 2 anymore!  Another benefit of the DS . . .
