Dr David Kim-Texas
I had my DS with Dr. Kim on 9/17/2012. I was a revision from a lap band he placed 4 years ago. My band was defective, it would not hold saline. I wanted a sleeve, but since my BMI was over 50 he advised that the DS would be more likely to get me where I needed to be.
I have total faith in him, he protects his stats and practice, I didn't feel like he would perform a DS if he wasn't skilled enough to do it. The man is very strict with his patients and the pre-op and post-op experience.
I'm going into my 4th week, no complications, no problems. A friend of mine had a DS with him a couple of weeks later and she's doing well. Not to say that a more experienced surgeon wouldn't be a better choice . . . but my experience has been good so far.

Thank you so much for your reply. U def have eased my mind a little bit. He is one of the few surgeons who operate at a facility that is in network so I was really reluctant to look elsewhere but I was considering it if I needed to.
Thank u again for ur feedback.

No problem. When they had my class for pre-op, there was another person there that was also a lap band revision to DS. His surgery was scheduled for a few days after my friend's. I'm not sure how many he's done, but I'm sure they can tell you.
Just a side note . . . The reason I first went to him four years ago was that he had good stats, no deaths, etc. Way before he started the TV and billboard crap, which I actually find to be a total turn off.
A friend at my office used him, and said that he didn't tell you what to do. He had several procedures that he offered, and unless there was a clear reason for one vs the other, he let his patients decide what's best. At the time, my insurance only covered lap band or bypass, and he never tried to steer me towards one or the other. He simply asked me what my concerns were with each one and clarified for me, and let me pick.
When my band failed and I went in to discuss my options, he was very honest and direct about why he recommended the DS. I didn't want bypass, I have a family member that had one and is seriously ill from complications, I have small children and didn't want dumping, etc. I was willing to do a sleeve, but he said that with my BMI being 56, restrictive and malabsorptive was a better option. Knowing that the last time I went to him he didn't try to move me one way or the other, him directly telling me that the DS was my best option meant a lot to me and it's one of several reasons I ended up choosing it.

Thank u for ur feedback...we have alot I common! =) I agree the "fame" is a big turn off for me too. I normally don't like big fancy doctors...his bedside manner wasn't the best but he was very knowledgable about the procedures...why I should or shouldn't do one vs another and gave me informed decisions so I can make the best decision. Im glad to hear other revisions have gone well. I would love to keep in touch with u and see how ur journey progresses. =)
