How much have you lost with your DS? Vets how long have you kept it off?
I was just sitting here thinking about would the DS really work for me. I just turned 20 and I was thinking what if it doesn't work. Anywho. I was just curious as to much everyone has lost with the DS, how long they kept it off. My starting weight when i started losing weight was about 342 my current weight is 330-336 (not completely sure) and my goal is 125-130. Just curious to see if I am making my goal weight completely unrealistic lol so I thought I'd ask people on OH what they started out weighing and what they want to weigh or do weigh. Thanks!
I am 5'5" and bounce around between 160 and 170.
I've lost 245.7 pounds, I am almost four years out (February 25th, 2009).
My highest weight was 405 pounds, my surgery day weight was 397.
I lost 200 pounds just a month shy of my first year out.
It hasn't been a trouble-free ride for me. I have several deficiencies that I'm being treated for right now, due to my own neglect during the six months of my mother's illness and death.
Nevertheless, I would do it all over again. I will diligently treat the deficiencies with the help of my doctors, and go forward, knowing that super morbid obesity will never again be a part of my life!
Go for it, but only if you're sure you can keep up with the very demanding nutritional requirements.
I'm almost 4 years out and I keep losing. I lost most of my weight in the first year and then over the next came down the rest. I'm 15 pounds lighter this year than last. I'm 5'5" if you are curious. I wear a range of sizes but tend to be a size 6 across the board. Most think I'm "too skinny" which makes me laugh but ..
If you are under 5'4" tall I'd say the 125-130 pound range is doable but you will be dealing with loose skin which means that you may fight to get down there and it may not be healthy for you.
Our scale weight isn't always the best weight for us. Trust me, I want to be 135 but really don't think that'll happen. I'm OK with that because the clothes are what I care about more than the scale. If I can be a 00 in some stores at 145 pounds I certainly don't need to lose 10 more pounds to be "Better."
You need to be certain you can handle the financial aspect of the DS as well with the cost of supplements. Also, most of us (those that are veterens) tend to also supplement with protein shakes to keep our protein levels up. Most of us average a minimum of $100-$200 per month on supplements/protein. I mention this because it's NOT uncommon to hear complains post-op how much it can cost to support yourself. Insurance doesn't usually cover this at all.

I'm 5'5" and lost around 170 pounds. I started at 297 and I bounce between 125-130 now. I'm 27 months out (2 years in July) and I lost all my weight in 18 months. I wouldn't mind some regain (although I'm not trying for it of course) as long as I stay under 145'ish (under 150 is normal BMI). I wear a size 6-8 (CRAZY!!) down from a size 28. There is hope
I'm 7 years post op, 5'5", and float around 155-160. I went down as far as 145 for a year or so, and don't mind this additional weight at all, for it filled out the boobies some.
For protein/supplements, I get my protein from food, and am quite the savvy shopper and spend only around $40/month on my vitamins by stocking up on BOGO deals wherever I can.

I'm only 5'3" and started out at 281 pounds. I was a slow loser with most of my major weight loss stopping at 6 months out. I initlally lost 90 lbs. when it stopped. Then a few years later, I had rebound gain of about 20-25 lbs. Then I got with the program and lowered my carbs and lost again and am currently at 100 pounds lost (so around 181). WAY too high for my height -- but better than I was and I now am not diabetic, cholesterol is fantastic, etc. so I'm happy.
