Revision approved: Fear sets in
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I was in her shoes and know how painful and scary that is. I did not seek medical help until I started vomiting blood daily as I was so ashamed of what I viewed as a personal failure. I ended up having the band completely unfilled. Loosing the tool, even a bad tool was scary, but I decided I would rather die than refill my band. I did gain 9 lbs and then sucked it up and joined Weigh****chers, went the the gym etc. to loose it. I needed to prove to myself that I could live and loose weight without a tool, besides I wanted to allow my inside to heal while I explored my options. Send your friend my best wishes.
Tell them to think of it this way---you're going to have a scheduled surgery, and you have the luxury of taking all the time you need for pre-op testing. The doctor will know if there's ANYTHING he needs to take into account in order to make things as safe as possible for you.
Now, if you don't have this surgery, the odds are good that some time pretty soon you're going to have to have some sort of EMERGENCY surgery, done by a doc who's never seen you before, and who doesn't work on SMO people every day.
The risks of NOT having this surgery are scary!
