Complex Carbs vs. Simple Carbs in Recipes - How do they affect you post-DS?
PattyL,
You have a great point about not wishing for trouble. I will be working on turning some of my favorites into DS-friendly recipes over the next month or two. Then I'll just have to wait and see how my body reacts. Adding fat is a new concept to me so that might be fun too. We're definitely on a similar cooking schedule - every other week. But when I do cook, it's like I'm cooking for the troops or something. Between making DS-friendly recipes and having high protein snacks on hand, this seems very reasonable. Glad to hear you don't have any real issues with food either!

You will find your new go to foods. I make a Brok's pizza every Friday evening and it last through til Wednesday. Protein pancakes can be made ahead of time. Some make a weeks worth and keep them in the fridge some have even frozen them. Precooked bacon, string cheese, boiled eggs are all things that are go to's for me. You sound like you are a good cook and a good planner. I think you will do just find, it will just be a new learning curve. We are here for you.
Preachermomma37,
I just added the ingredients for Brok's pizza to my grocery list. I'm also going to try regular bacon for the first time in more than a decade. And I might have to try the pancakes next week. Thanks for the suggestions! And I will certainly look to you all for more advice!
Thanks again!

Complex carbs, like the ones in beans, don't bother me much. Simple carbs, like white flour, CAN be the Devil. Sometimes they bother me, sometimes they don't. I find they bother me less when I eat them with lots of fat. But remember---we absorb nearly 100% of simple carbs.
Dairy products vary a lot in their carby-ness. Milk has a lot of lactose (i.e., milk sugar), but cheeses have less, and the more they're aged, the less lactose they have. Generally cheese are considered a good source of protein, and have very few carbs. 'Skim' milk simply has less fat, and DSers need fat.
A word about low- and no-fat products---when fat is removed, it's replaced with CARBS. Eat the full-fat version. It tastes better, and you'll actually be absorbing fewer calories.
Cream soups DO tend to have a lot of carbs. You might want to find a substitute.
In your chicken noodles---I personally would replace the noodles with potatoes. Potatoes don't bother my guts at all, and they're a healthier food than noodles.
I can eat any food I choose to. There are some foods that I choose to limit, not because they cause me much distress, but because they tend to make me fat. (*grin*)

MsBatt,
Thanks for the response! I'm stealing your new word "carby-ness". Ha! Good point on the cream soups too. I'll have to see what else I can find. I have seen low carb noodles too so I might try those at some point. This is all so far down the line that I'm just trying things for taste right now...which seems silly since that might change too. Oh well, it keeps me busy and on my toes with all of this.
I secretly don't want to be able to eat every food. Goodness knows that's what got me where I am today - the fluffy chick with a cute face.
Thanks again!

As has been said, we're all different.
Tortillas (flour) are my go-to bread at home. If I want a sandwich, I don't use bread I will use a tortilla. It doesn't affect me adversely.
Beans, I now have a great love for them and while my chili recipe is different than yours, I have no problems with it. Beans can give me what I call "regular gas" -- the kind EVERYBODY gets when eating beans. It's not DS gas and it's not offensive.
Cream cheese, cheese, yogurt, and the like are a daily part of my diet for their protein, fat and calcium. I have them daily to maintain my shape
That said, I don't drink milk (skim, 1%, 2%, whole) as they kill my stomach. I use heavy cream in everything.
I find that gluten-free noodles, while carby, don't upset my stomach as much as regular noodles can.
Like others said, you'll find new things to cook. I love muffin cups (fritattas in muffin cups), those can last me all week and are chock full of protein and yummies, Check out this recipe to see what I mean:

(btw, ALL of her recipes are awesome)
Brok's pizza has not been made in my house, my bf might have a coronary if I try. *sigh*

Tali,
I actually like low-carb tortillas. I don't really eat bread so they are my preference for sandwiches too. I like your comparison - regular gas vs. DS gas. My sister has the DS and boy howdy, I can tell the difference!
I might have to try gluten-free noodles too. I have low carb ones on my list to try already.
The muffin cups are just like my sausage and egg breakfast muffins. They are so easy and freeze very well. I'll have to try some of those recipes too. I have the pizza on my list to try in my next batch of cooking this week. I'm skeptical that it tastes as awesome as some say but I certainly hope it is!
Thanks for the response!
