Hi Esterjane, I revised from RNY to DS (wish I had know fully about DS before I did RNY).  I am almost 1 year post op and have lost my excess weight I gained after RNY and extra.  I am 4lbs till goal.  My hair shed for the first 6 months and have stopped, the grade of my hair has changed but that's fine.  I focus on proteins, fat and veggies.  I eat very little carbs as it will bloat me all to hell and make me gassy.  I love DS!!!!

Good luck to you on your journey.

I am almost 4 months out and am losing my hair. This was one of the negatives I knew going into surgery. I believe it is the low iron and low protein count. I have upped both and hope to see a recovery in the coming months, but I decided before surgery if I lost all my hair it would be worth it. I'd rather be bald, skinny and healthy than have lots of hair and die young.

 Preacher Momma,

I have heard that some hair does fall out but comes back.  I take gelatin capsules and it keeps my hair and nail strong.

Thanks for the response,

Hugs, Esther

Ditto to what Valerie said regarding hair loss. I experienced this "reset" after DS and then  two years later, after abdominoplasty. It all returned to the normal thickness within a year postop in both cases.

Regarding "regain"... personally I did not regain much in almost four years. I bounce within 10 pounds, but have to watch my diet. Frequent or late night snacks, excessive carbs and, ironically soup make me slowly regain, but once I hit the 10 pounds border, I panic and subconsciously limit food intake, dropping these pounds within a few weeks. So, I wouldn't say it's hard to break DS - take away my scale away for a few months and bring me some egg bread and I'm easily making the scary statistics, lol.

Ironically, I personally know at least two DSers who never got below obesity range and one, *****gained 40 pounds. So it's not all rainbows and unicorns. DS is not a miracle, but it's a very good tool. More effective than others, for sure.

Nata, a very happy DSer!
