X-Post : Stevia - bitter aftertaste?

I made the decision this month to switch from Splenda to Stevia as a sweetener, even though I tried it once and didn't like it.

The chemical composition of Splenda really does bother me (chlorine molecule takes it from sucrose to sucralose), so I bit the bullet and bought stevia instead of my usual supply of Splenda.

Does anyone using stevia notice a bitter aftertaste, or is it just my tastebuds?

I agree that it has a bitter aftertaste. I tried to push through it but am back with Splenda.

Yep. I went back to Splenda. The stevia tasted like the old sacharine.

Life isn't perfect.  If it's not real sugar - then plan on some kind of aftertaste.  It's just the way it is.

I never have an aftertaste with anything but the stevia.

I stopped using Equal because of the heat/cyanide connection.

I went out and bought 200 packets of my old standby, Splenda, today because I just coudln't take the stevia bitterness anymore!

I will try not to think about the chlorine.  We probably get more of that in municipal water than from Splenda, anyway!

Anyone who likes stevia, I'll be posting it on eBay soon!

Stevia just tastes bad to me.  I'll take the chlorine.

Yep, came to that conclusion this morning!

I just couldn't take it anymore!

Yep, but you may want to try mixing it with a little erythritol, as 90% of that is meant to pass out in your urine (yes you still have 10% to contend with).

I've been using a teeny pinch of stevia (or a tablet would do) and about half a teaspoon of erythritol. This combo tastes really good. You should be able to get erythritol from Amazon.

I just started using Splenda following a suggestion from you though LOL. I've only been having it for a few days and maybe only 2-4 tablets a day so I've not experienced any ill effects *yet*.

... maybe I'll hold off on getting my SF syrup from Starbucks!!

If the syrup is sweetened with stevia, I would leave it right there on the shelf!

Most SF syrups I've gotten have been sweetened with Splenda.

I guess chemicals are just part of the Great American Diet now!

I really like Splenda, because it tastes more like sugar than anything I've used, and it comes in bulk bags, it measures like sugar, so I don't have to get a headache trying to do the substitution math.   My instructor took issue with the use of Splenda when I did a presentation on bariatric nutrition, but she said she understood that SF sweeteners are necessary for bariatric patients, just like medicine for anything else, and let's face it, those are chemicals, too!

I found that Truvia has less of an after taste.
