Another article about hair loss and iron deficiency!

After reading this article I have added an iron supplement, upped my protein, since that is also a major contributor, and I have seen a big difference!   I wish I would have read this years ago, it would have saved me a fortune on supplements and shampoos, none of which really helped.

Next stop my Doc for blood work!

Hope this helped you as much as me!  :)

Interesting.  My hemoglobin was 13 the last time I donated blood so I know my iron isn't low but I still lose more hair these days then pre-op.  Maybe my chemical makeup just changed for good with surgery....which worries me because I won't look good bald.  Ha!

How much iron are you taking?  Just curious.

Hmmmmmmmmm there are other reasons, like not enough protein?  Apparently if you dont get enough it makes the hair shaft thinner so it falls out (just read that too.)  That's why you loose hair when you crash diet.  Also Alopecia brought on by trama or surgery?  But that is more of a circular pattern not overall shedding.

One other reason is tyroid.  If you notice your eyebrows are thin too, it could be that.  And then there's good old menopause (don't get insulted, I don't know how old you are!)

I am shocked you are able to give blood?  I heard that DSers shouldn't do that.  Great for you, your labs must be great!

I should have been more clear.  I had the sleeve two years ago and am looking into the DS now.  My hair loss with the sleeve got pretty bad at one point.  I just ended up wearing my hair back in a pony tail for awhile so you couldn't tell as much.  My hair is still thinner today so it worries me even more considering a second surgery.  With the sleeve, my surgeon didn't require much more than a multivitamin so that might have had a lot to do with it.  Obviously, with the DS I would be doped up on vitamins. :-)  Anywho, with the sleeve I'm able to donate blood every two months, which is great since I needed two pints during surgery.  We'll see if I can if I get the DS.

Keep the articles coming.  I will try anything (doctor approved of course) to keep a decent head of hair.

I've added an iron supplement (since I often struggle with low iron) and am being sure I get my 120 gms of protein and after just a few weeks I really feel a difference!

I also lost a ton of hair after my DS, then a hernia repair, and after my 2 C-sections too.  Some people are sensitive to anesthesia as well, but who knows!  :)  Iat least it grows back!

My doc told me after the DS we should no longer give blood, but everyone is different.

Good luck!
