I'm from Canada and I have answers for you. DO NOT GO to Dr. Lutrzhykowski. His surgeries are NOT covered by OHIP anymore.

First of all - go to Ontario forum. look for user PamXYZ - she is the expert in getting approval in Ontario for DS. PM her.

Second, if you are already in the Bariatric Registry, keep going with the process. If you're not in Hamilton center - demand a transfer or second opinion from D. Hong - he is the "DS decision maker" in Ontario. He is also the only Ontario surgeon, doing DS. In the extremely difficult cases or for revisions, Ontario patients are operated in Montreal by Dr. Gagner.

This is the only way for you to get DS covered by OHIP, but it's working. Relying on a surgeon's opinion in Ontario, you deny yourself best wls option for the sake of this surgeon's professional success in the only procedure he mastered -RnY. That's the case with majority of Ontario surgeons - they recommend the surgery they know to do, not the one, giving the best result.

RnY stats better than DS is a total bull**** misinformation, widely spread by Ontario weight loss centers - they have some crooked study from one researcher only from 2006, that states this bull**** Marceau cited this study once noting that other MULTIPLE studies contradict this data, but Ontario doctors have very selective taste in information. This nonsense keeps moving and spreading around for years and years.\

Now, about regrets. Yea, huge regrets. I went from BMI of 62 to 24 and keep it off, slightly bouncing for almost four years, while eating like a football player (watching carbs, though), not chewing my food to death, drinking at meal like normal people, going on a losing spree (5-10 pounds up and down, just like my skinny sister) by eating double cheeseburgers with triple bacon (toss away the bun, eat a few fries with mayo -LOSE these friggin 5 pounds). Instead I could have slo-o-o-o-wly chew two Oz of no fat chicken breast and wait half a day till I can drink some water to wa**** down, eat healthy tasteless no fat-no sugar stuff, deny myself favorite fatty foods, eventually break down, eat an ice cream or a cake and dump like crazy... Of course I regret! Cry ever day! eat burger and cry, munch on crispy bacon and weep.

DS is not miracle - carbs beat it up, but it gives you a fighting chance! You might find a person not very successful with DS, defeated by a mighty enemy called carbs. You will not find a person regretting having DS instead of RnY.
Nata, a very happy DSer!
