What's the truth about POOP?

Simple carbs and simple sugars will give you the most Gawd-awful gas and poop you've ever smelled!
That said, while I have no scientific proof, (although I do remember reading this as a pre-op) the shorter the common channel, the more GI issues, like diarrhea and gas. Also, until your intestinal flora is repopulated (probiotics), you might have some issues. Diarrhea is really a tool for me to remember to take my calcium. Besides being absolutely necessary for your bones, it helps to firm things up. I think it's the binders they use. You can actually use the pills like chalk on a sidewalk!

That is interesting regarding the correlation between channel length and GI issues.

I have a 75cm common channel and am doing OK at 6 weeks out... things could of course change, but for now I can't really complain.

I'm 7 years out, and have a very large poop first thing in the morning, so much that I multi-task and apply my makeup while sitting on my throne.  Occasionally I'll do a little more in the evening, but if I'm eating well - that's it.  I don't have to go right after I eat or anything like that.  It's not uncontrollable, but my stools are definitely looser.  I don't consider it a bad thing - but rather satisfying.  It's better than dealing with constipation that the RNY's experience if they react badly to fat.

Ha ha, make up while you poop.  I can see that I'm going to have to do the same thing (and wash my face too LOL).

Just don't try to brush your teeth while you're doing it.  It didn't end well

I brushed my teeth while on the loo the last 2 days in a row and survived. I had to try as I need to make up for the 20 minutes I sit on the loo.

I have the window open, spray Febreze and have an oil burner going too.

Hi LadyLucky,

I am a sleeve to DS revision patient, and just wanted to say that I too worried about the poop issues when deciding on whether to revise my sleeve or not.

I never even considered revising to a gastric bypass, the DS was the natural logical choice as I was already halfway there with my sleeve. I wish I had had the full DS from the very beginning and not beat myself up for years trying to make the sleeve work by itself.

I can say that I spent way too much time worrying about the poo issues. It is not that big of a deal if you eat and supplement correctly. I go twice a day normally; once in the am, and once again late afternoon/early evening. Now, if I eat too many simple carbs it will make them smell worse and be much more frequent. Also, sugar alcohols are the devil for me as far as gas.

I poo maybe every couple days.  If I drink too much coffee it gets worse, so I stick to diet coke.
