Just do your best!  I had the same thing my tastebuds were completely different just try to stay hydrated. It gets better I had that for a couple weeks then it slowly started to go away my taste buds are different but i hear that goes away as well the further out you are. Congrats on your surgery! Things will get better

Dont worry, everything will return to normal in a few months or less. For now take advantage of not liking your usual eats by dropping as many lbs as you can. This makes it all worth it. I'm back to eating and liking all my usual food choices, but all in moderation. My D.S. has kept me at my goal for months now. I couldnt have done this without it. I am able to enjoy pizza, ice cream, popcorn on occasion without any distress what so ever, with maintaining my lowest weight of 121. Best wishes on your WLS journey !!!!!  ;-)

Hey I am new to this. My mother had the DS done four years ago. I am a Lightweight of 220 with a BMI of 35. I saw that your surgery weight was 235. Did you loose the pounds really quick or was a slow process? What was it like for you after surgery?

I had the air bubble effect too for about 2 months until my stomach healed and relaxed a bit. My solution was to eat a bit at a time, just a few spoon fulls, waited for the air to rise to the top, and walked around to settle it all. Sometimes I had a shake while standing. Sitting closed off my stomach so the air couldnt escape. Using a straw to drink was enabling more air to get into my stomach. Carbonated beverages were hard for me to tollerate. I dont have any of that any more. My stomach and eating are back to normal feeling. I was worried I would never feel the same, but I feel great now.

Some of this is normal after surgery but many of us get something called thrush in our mouths and throat. Is your tongue coated? If so, your doc can write a prescription that can clear it right up.
From your discription, that's what it sounds like to me.

Thrush can give you that gritty texture feel for food and even drinks. Hope it goes away soon!

I never had thrush, but reacted to Splenda/Sucralose, its in everything. My mouth hurt, and swallowing was difficult.

I wOuld be in a world of hurt without Splenda! The pink stuff ( Sweet n Low) I will do in a pinch, but Equal sets off my lupus, and besides, I've read that it turns into cyanide in hot drinks and baking!
As for eating, think of feeding a baby solids for the first time; you will have to "work up" to some foods, but at the end of your first year, you will probably be able to eat any and everything you want !
Good Luck!
