 Good luck with your search.

Did you check with USA Medical Center? On one of the DS information websites I came across it named two physicians there that supposedly offer DS. Although when I looked at their actual website it didn't mention them as offering DS so that confused me a bit. I was going to contact them to check next week because obviously it is the weekend now so I'd be unable to reach someone at this time.

I am meeting with a surgeon in Pensacola on Friday for my first appointment. He doesn't offer DS as an option on his website (in fact all of the ones I have located here in Pensacola only show RNY or Lapband as the options but I'm hoping in person it may be a different story). I'm just now looking for more information on DS it sounds like for the same reasons that you have listed above. So if the one I am meeting with doesn't offer that type and I decide it'll be the best one for me, I guess I'll be looking around to find a close surgeon as well.

I have contacted them and they do not do the DS. I have kind of gave up and decided to get the VSG and see how that goes for 15 months and if it does not give me the results I think I should have gotten I will go ahead and get the gastric bypass.

If you haven't already try Dr. Jeffrey Lords office here in Pensacola. It lists that he does the DS on one website I was looking at (although those two doctors at USA did too). I think it might be similar to the way he does VSG because he doesn't list on his website that he does it but he said he does during his meet the doctor seminar. In fact, he mentioned he is one of the creators of the sleeve and that he has patients fly in from other countries to have it performed. So maybe he doesn't advertise that he does the DS the same way that he doesn't advertise he does the VSG. From my research it seems the sleeve is a great option too because some surgeons use it as the first half of the DS.

My appointment is with Dr. Friedman on Friday and I plan on asking if he performs VSG's or DS's because I feel those are both better options for me than gastric bypass. Although I should probably find out which procedures my insurance covers before I get my heart set on one or the other. I am hoping it would cover any I prefer or that I could do the approval for one and then have a DS surgeon appeal it for me with why it would be better for me to have that instead. I may find myself in a time crunch as a result because I am in graduate school so am hoping to do this during the holiday time between semesters so if I have to appeal or have issues getting them to approve a different type of surgery then I may have to delay my spring semester. Well hopefully both you and I will get the procedure we are looking for and I will let you know if I find anything out from Friedman unless you advise that you already contacted him.

I haven't heard of doctor friedman or doctor jefferey lords.  I will have to look more into them and call them tuesday. I understand what you mean by finding out if the insurance will cover it or not.  I have a million things going through my head as far as surgery goes then post up.. I know for a fact I will have tons of loose skin and I do not have the credit to get carecredit or anything of that nature, but im working on that issue.  But right now I feel like if I can not get the duodenal switch I will get the VSG .  IThe lapband was not  my preference and I dont like the idea of my stomach being cut to the size of an egg for the gastric bypass and i saw how the gastric bypass affected some of my family members and it has scared me away from it.

Dr. Jeffrey Friedman is the Medical Director of the Bariatric program at Baptist Hospital and Dr. Jeffrey Lord is the Medical Director of the Bariatric program at Sacred Heart. Dr. Friedman originally practiced under Dr. Lord as his Asst. Medical Director.

I went to Dr. Lord's seminar. Dr. Friedman's was cancelled because of Hurricane Isaac.

Technically they both work with the Surgeons Group in Pensacola. So you could try calling the Surgeons Group to inquire if they would accept your insurance and if they perform the DS procedure so you could check both at the same time rather than calling each individual program to ask.

I am not aware of anyone getting a DS from either of those surgeons.  I do know no doctors from Florida are listed on the vetted DS surgeons list at DSfacts.com.   I also do recall, from reading on this board for 3 years, that Doctors Overcash and Hoodinot (?sp) from Florida are especially to be avoided.

I haven't heard of those two you named although admittedly I am new at this. Thanks to some vet advise I am going to travel to Dr Stewart in Texas. Dr. Lord was on a DS list I came across as I was searching but it was from when he practiced in VA which was years ago. His office staff sounded confused when I was talking about the DS and asking if he performed it. He supposedly is open to doing other procedures and will do a consultation about it but I have made up my mind about traveling to someone that has done more and done them more recently too.

I am glad to hear of your decision for Dr. Stewart!
