Duodenal Switch from RNY
I second what Terri is saying!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had complications as well. This is NOT something to take lightly!!!!
I was fully prepared for whatever came my way, but all the while, hoping that I would sail through..... well, I have not sailed right through.
THERE IS A REASON why there are only 6 vetted surgeons who do the RNY to DS surgery.
Please check out my profile, and feel free to message me as well.
12/29/11 - I had my RNY to DS revision surgery with Dr. Keshishian
1/21/12 - My incision became infected. I had to have my incision packed daily, then, when I got the wound vac, the dressing had to be changed every 3 days. I finally had my incision healed up the beginning of March, 2012.
1/25/12 - LEAK SUSPECTED!!!!
2/7/12 - Flew back down to California from Alaska ~ after over 2 weeks of NPO ~ No leak detected!!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!!!
3/21/12 - I discovered my hernia (my alien)
4/9/12 - After I had an ultrasound to "make sure" it indeed WAS actually a hernia, I had a consult (after a lengthy phone call to Dr. Keshishian who told me the same thing that the general surgeon said "Since your incision became infected, you have to wait 6 months to have your hernia repair surgery") with the general surgeon.
I will be having my hernia repair surgery 9/18/12. My incision will be around 10 inches

I just wanted to add that I did have leak and was 5 months with a feeding tube. My wound did not get infected but the dressing still has to be changed twice per-week and I still cannot shower. My surgery was in March 2012. This is a surgery to investigate and listen to the risks and use one of the few vetted surgeons. That said there are people that have the revision and do fine. Hope this helps.
