Revision surgery, who what when and where?

I have just received approval for revision of my RNY.  Yeah me!  I am trying to educate myself on the different types of revisions.  While speaking with my surgeon, he indicated that he has done a type of revision that is close to a DS.  He did not exactly or technically call it a RNY to DS.   I am searching for information so that on my next visit July 26th I am armed and dangerous with information.  I want to be somewhat educated on the subject so as to ask intelligent or informative questions.

I have posted this request on other boards, but have not received many responses.  I realize that everyone has there own opinion and thats fine, gosh know I have my own.  I respect others opinions but the experienced ones and the old timers are the ones that has lived this day to day.

Technology has changed since I had my RNY in 2007 even.  So with that said please give me all the information you can.  Good and Bad.

Thanks

It was my understanding that there are not any revision DS surgeons in TX.

Any surgeon that says he has done a type of revision that is close to a DS I would run away...far away and as fast as I could FROM that surgeon.

"Close" to a DS is NOT a DS.  Run away.

There are only a handful of experienced revision surgeons.  You need to talk to one of them.

I'm not sure about Stewart but he's the only one who has done enough in TX to warrant a recommendation.

The best?  Dr. K in Cali from all of the info I've seen over the years.

He is probably going to propose ERNY, by that name or some other name. the "E" stands for extended. What it involves is leaving your pouch the same, but making the bypass way, way distal, such that your common channel is same or similar to what we have with a DS.

This is NOT a good operation. It keeps all the problems from the pouch - dumping, reactive hypoglycemia, can't take NSAIDs, some foods get stuck, all the iron, calcium, B vitamin malabsorption - and adds to that the issues we can face with the DS, but WITHOUT the protective aspect of using your pylorus normally. It is the worst of both worlds.

There is an excellent discussion of this operation, far better than I can word it, on another website. I'm sending you a pm.

I would strongly recommend you consult with Dr. Stewart. He does do a real RNY to DS revision.

ERNY is like imitation cheese.  Go for the real thing.

There is a list of RNY to DS revision surgeons in my profile, please take a look.
My suggestion is like the others responses..... RUN!!!!  Why would you go to a Ford dealer if you wanted a Chevy?
