It’s been 7 years since I made the life altering decision to undergo the DS. I was like many – started my research with the lap band, then the RNY, then learned about the DS and never looked back.
I’ve lost 150 pounds, and regained 10 which I really needed. I follow very simple rules: Protein is not an option, supplements are not an option, and I am religious about annual checkups from my doctor. I eat when I want, and pretty much what I want. No one who doesn’t know about my DS would ever imagine I’m not a normie. Bottom line? I follow the basic rules, and the rest is a bonus. Yay me.
I no longer weigh myself. I determine my weight by my clothing, and am wearing the same clothes 4-5 years later. I can say this would have never been the case pre-DS.
Got my 7 year labs back – and for those that have comments around the DS high fat diet? My risk ratio of Cholesterol/HDL? 1.96. Anything below a 3.3 is considered ½ the average for women. My doctor is thrilled. My Cholesterol is 134, my LDL is 52, my HDL is 68, and my Triglycerides are 66. So much for the high fat diet being a problem.
My biggest regret on this anniversary? My beloved surgeon passed away last month. He was a gift to me and to many others.
I am a very lucky, and healthy woman. I continue to love my DS.
Sharon
