DS doctor in NW Louisiana NE Tex or SW Ark
I had VSG in July 2010 and really did not get the results I wanted, so considering going the DS route but having a hard time finding surgeon who does this procedure locally. I live in Shreveport Louisiana and my VSG doctor does not do the DS. So really appreciate feedback from successful post DS patients. Also I'm 60 so thinking age might be a problems also - any hints, suggestions are appreciated! So glad I found you guys!
Age 60 should not be a problem. Lots of people have the DS in their 50's and a fair number in their 60's.
There are no DS surgeons at all in Ark, and none that I would recommend in Louisiana. In TX, the best bet is Dr. Stewart in Denton - I don't know my TX geography very well, so don't know how far that would be.
There are a few other surgeons who do the DS in TX also. Check the list at dsfacts.com.
Don't believe any lists on this website, docs can advertise to get on there here and they are not accurate.

I have never heard of Dr. Barnes, and would guess that he is someone who does not do the DS. He may be a fine surgeon for other procedures, but I bet the "patient that really liked him" is someone who does not have a Ds.
Esp as a revision patient, you need an experienced DS surgeon. We've given you the resources, the rest is up to you.

Go to www.dsfacts.com and find a vetted TRUSTED doc. Stay away from from Dr Warden for sure ! Had a really bad experience with him as did some others. For best results use only a vetted doc.

This is who I pulled from list on DSfacts.com only 2? No one in Louisiana or Arkansas. Wow! If doc is listed is it because they paid to get their names on there or is it from patient recommendations? Denton is outside Dallas about same distance as Houston from Shreveport which is 4 - 5 hrs. Wouldn't that be a hardship having doctor so far away, understand this procedure has more complications but also greater loss. Thanks to everyone!

Hi there,
Docs do NOT pay to get their name on the www.dsfacts.com list. They earn their way on the list by being good docs with good results and good patient care. Docs listed on OH have to pay to advertise. There is no advertising on the DS Facts list. The list was put together by long term DS'ers and patients who are willing to recommend their docs. The docs who do not make the list have had malpractice, deaths, poor follow up and other issues and a multitude of other isses.
The DS is more complicated than other WLS procedures and it has a greater learning curve. The majority of people who get the DS have to travel for it.
Docs who do the the DS are used to people who have to travel. They will order labs long distance, you get them done locally and have them faxed to their office and then they call you. You should also travel your OWN labs to learn to note when they are changing.
I do not know a lot of Dr Wilson patients, but I happen to know a lot of Dr Stewart patients and they are doing awesome. Dr Stewart has a great program going for out of town patients.
HTH... please research carefully and do NOT become a statistic of a non vetted DS doc.
