Is "BPD with DS" the same as DS?

Good Morning!

My insurance covers a number of WLS types.  However, I'm trying to figure out what the following means:

- Open and Laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch

I know this is the DS forum and that there is also a separate BPD forum which makes me think the two are very different.  So then tell me, what is BPD with DS?  Is that what everyone here calls a DS?

Goodness... confusing stuff!

Yes. BPD with DS = DS.
I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

Thanks, Pat!  Looks like someone posted a similar question the other day.  Ooops!

You can find a list of vetted DS surgeons at www.dsfacts.com The surgeon you have listed does NOT do the DS, or at least does not have a history of doing the DS---and you do NOT want to be in  someone's first 50 or so attempts.
