URGENT: TO ALL compliant, successful DS'er postops

Yes, SharonG -and I've been told he's never done a Duodenal Switch--he is a Laproscopic RNY surgeon specialist and verbally deplores the DS procedure. [If they can defeat the effectiveness/productivity of the DS--then he wouldn't lose so many patients who are seeking the DS!] I got a phone call around 6:30 PM on Jan 29, 2012 from a young man stating he was calling from USC and they were doing followup research of further-out DS'ers and wanted to know if I had any troubles/problems or complaints from mine.  I got his name & phone # before answering anything; he said there were many callers making calls--so I gave him my DS a 5-Star rating; told him my perfect blood work--that I get every year; he asked what supplements I was taking; etc.  I did then email to my web of friends to alert them that it was legit because I called him back the next day to add more information (obviously they were having 'students' call because he quietly answered--saying he was in class.)  THAT'S why the DS surgeons are gathering information to present to BLOCK Dr. K's rubbish-"claims" and to prevent his report from being published-- It's MY belief that those who have required revisions due to extreme malnutrition are those who have NOT been compliant with getting blood work OR taking required supplements!  OR, if the DS is being performed on a very "light-weight" person who loses too much... It's my belief that the DS is most effective on super-morbidly obese, or those who must take NSAIDS- (as the RNY'ers cannot take NSAIDs)--besides, the DS is only A TOOL, not a magic bullet.  I think a study should be made to show the failure rate of the RNY - the weight gains, ulceration, etc. Let's face it:  there ARE those who get lifetime success with the RNY - but it's because THEY have gotten their HEAD straight about putting food in the correct prospective - and not overeating - which can undo the surgery by leaps and bounds.  So, for me--who was over 350# for over 40 years and 408# when I sought the DS... it's a lifesaver.  My Blue Cross HMO insurance company denied-denied-denied me for 3 solid years (even with a BMI of 76.3****il I hired a lawyer, SUED THEM & WON!  I was one of the first in So. CA to sue & Win!  Persistence paid off because NOW, I have a life and have maintained a 200 lb. loss for going on 9 years! Halleluah!

OR, if the DS is being performed on a very "light-weight" person who loses too much...

I worried about a lightweight losing too much but a lightweight can lose too much with the RNY as well...

With that said, I WAS a lightweight...my BMI just qualified at 35.2. My surgeon and I worked on a longer common channel...I wanted 150, he was aiming for 200, we compromised at 175. So even the argument that you are a lightweight is bogus!!!

Lightweights need the best WLS as well!

I was a light-weight and only lost 65lbs.  But, it cured my diabetes.  Well worth fighting to get my DS over 4 yrs ago.

Sent email. Hope it still helps. Makes sense someone would try to make it illegal. Can put a severe dent in the multibillion dollar diet industry
