Vitamin D question

 Hi Everyone,

I got my labs done a few weeks ago and my total VItamin D is 108.  What level is good for a DS'er?  I will be 6 years out in September.

Thanks,
Ruby

Excellent. Some medical folks will freak but many of the new ranges are topping out at 130 - 150. If you're comfortable, you could drop back a little on your dose or the number of days a week you take your supplement. Good job, I say.

 Thanks Gina,

Dr. L seems to think I should cut my D by half.  Right now I am taking 2 per day of the 50,000.  Do you know if it is harmful to the liver?  I would rather be in the upper numbers than trying to play catch up.

I keep mine around 80 with 50,000 IUs every day and 100,000 IUs on Mon, Wed and Fri. It can do harm to the liver if you go too high with supplements for too long. Maybe you can cut a deal for a retest in 3 months if you cut back to 100K 3 days a week and 50K 7 days a week. At least you'd know and wouldn't dip too far in 3 months.

 Gina,

Your schedule sounds like a good idea, I thought we would have a harder time getting up into those numbers.  Thank you for your response, now I need to start following your daily eats.  Seems like I am gaining 2 pounds a year, doesn't sound like much but I would like to rein it in while I can.

Maybe I will see you there after the holidays.  :)

I take 250,000 IU a night, away from most other supplements. My level was 111, shocking my doc who insisted that I take less and retest. So, I dropped to 200,000 IU x 6 wks. Retest--53!!! Even I was astounded to have dropped that much, in such as short time. I had osteoporosis, but improved to osteopenia, so I want to stay on the high side.

I thought I took alot at 100,000 plus what was in my multi, dry D3 and dry A&D.  I was diagnosed last year with osteopenia, my D was 35 at the time.  Now I think I will use Gina's schedule and try to get retested this winter.  Doesn't seem right that yours dropped that much in 6 weeks, seems like it would take longer for that.  Just goes to show you how important it is for us to be on top of our supplements.

Thanks for the information,
Ruby

I have only heard of one other person taking as much as I do. I have trouble picking up much calcium, as well, with a 100 cm CC.
It is surprising how we all vary in our uptake with the same configuration.

I'm having a heck of a time with calcium, too. My CC is 75 cm. I already have osteopenia.

I've started mixing Cal-Mag-D powder with juice, hoping the liquid will absorb better. I still take the calcium citrate pills, just supplementing with the liquid as well.
