Newbie here saying hello :)
DS on 08/20/12
Although I am a new member, I have been reading these forums for a few years while on my DS journey. It's been a long three and a half years, but here I am, a little over two months away from my "birthday" of August 20, 2012. A little about me:
My name is Andrea and I am married to a wonderful and supportive man. I am an aunt to two little girls (Hailey, 2 and Charlotte, 3 months). I have also struggled with my weight since I was about 8 years old. I graduated high school at 170 pounds, gained another 30 in college, and just kept adding more and more pounds after I was married.
I started looking at having surgery in the winter of 2009 when I found out that my excess weight had caused me to become infertile. My husband and I tried, but could never conceive. I was looking at having the RNY and I met with a surgeon who a family friend actually worked for. He gave me the facts and advised the DS, which I had never heard of. Over the next year I thought about it, but I was really lazy about doing anything, and it turned out our insurance would only cover 20%. Luckily my husband got a new job and new insurance that covered the surgery 90%, or so we thought...
Winter of 2011 I revisited my surgeon's office. This time I decided on doing the DS and went through all of the pre op testing. When it came time for the insurance approval, I received a phone call from the surgeon's office that my insurance put a rider into our policy that they were no longer covering WLS. I was devastated. We had to wait until the following year to switch insurance carriers and try again. So, we did and here I am, 6 months later, approved and waiting anxiously for the next two months to whiz by :)
These forums have been a great help so far and everyone seems very supportive. I am very excited to start this journey in my life and share with you all :)

I was hoping to have my surgery at the end of May, but Dr. Greenbaum is so booked up! Great for him, sucky for me, lol! I am very excited, but very nervous at the same time. I still have so many questions and concerns. I know I am making the right decision, but I still can't help feeling like I'm not.
