Franikie,

I am pre-duodenal and I have been hearing horror stories of gas sobad that people could not be out in public. I am terrified as I am a teacher and must be in the public all day. Do you have any words of wisdom?

I work corporate so I am meeting clients all day and I can't afford to be gassy and bloated.  If I go overboard with the carbs the gas and bloating will kill me.  So I keep my carb under 50 grams per day and I am fine.  I mainly stick with high protein foods and veggies.  I drink plenty of water and crystal light.  No sugars as that has me gassy as well.

Just keep your carbs in check and you will do fine.

Good luck with your journey,

Frankie

Nice to 'meet' you. I watched your YouTube videos when I was first researching the DS. Thanks for all the honesty and for sharing your journey! Any tips you'd give someone about to enter the DS world?

Pre-op: Be ready for one helluva change in your diet and life.  Be prepared for the fact that the DS is the most drastic WLS available as far as severity is concerned and with that comes both severe results and severe draw-backs.  A lot of people have intolerances to flour, wheat, potato, etc - Be prepared that you may have to give that kind of food up for a while and eat them only when you're prepared to pay the price in potty-time.

Post-op: Take your iron as soon as you can - it will combat the immediate diarrhea you get right out of surgery.   Never skimp on your vitamins - NEVER.  Seek support and advice from successful DS'ers and know that your surgeon's nutritionist has probably no idea what the hell they're saying about advice on a diet post-op.

Join the OH DS board on facebook - it's full of DS'ers with loads of help and support.

Best of luck!!!
