Can I switch surgeons/hospitals?

Good morning,

I was wondering if I can switch surgeons after an insurance request has been sent. I have been denied by Cigna twice. I found out today when I called my insurance that the information was incomplete (the reason for the denials) and that the information sent in last Friday was sent to the wrong department. I was told that an appeal or a peer to peer should have been in place by this time.
Well, they forwarded everything to appeals. I call my surgeon's insurance specialist and she had an attitude and said I should have left it alone. She also said that she was trying to keep me updated and now will have to wait even longer.
Now I have a bad taste in my mouth because of her attitude and error in sending the information to the wrong department. If I had just left it there, nothing would have been done.
So now I want to switch surgeons. Is this possible considering my info is now in appeals. Thanks in advance for your honest opinions and any insight.

Just out of curiosity, where are you located?  There are lots of vets here who could probably give you a referral if you need one.

Check out Dr. Margaret Inman, Meridian Surgical Group, Carmel, IN.

She is a dynamite surgeon, and her staff is great!

I switched surgeons part way through the process too. I didnt get to the insurance approval yet, but could have switched at any time. I am so happy I made the chang to GHP. My experience was just what I needed, the entire first year, post surgery. I couldnt see myself dealing with the first office, especially after major surgery. They were totally responsible for my switch, not the surgeon. They didnt do the D.S., another reason for my change.

Thanks everyone. It would be ideal that I stay in my area since I do have a small child. I am really nervous since getting approved is taking longer than i expected. I am a teacher and I am really hoping to get my surgery at least 3 or 4 weeks before the school year begins, so that I can focus and heal.
I guess I will see what next week has in store for me. Hopefully an approval and a surgery date. If not I may have to get my surgery during Christmas break
Thanks again!!!
