Hi Jamie, How are you otherwise? Haven't communicated with you in ages. Hope all is well.

I started a stall in December 2010, and still on a stall. Some have told me that they were stalled for about 8 months and then started losing again. This could be you? Mine stall has been a year and a half, but I do indulge too mu*****arbs/sweets, but am staying at about 160-163 usually, and I do use the scale. It keeps me motivated and I really buckle down if I go over 165, and the weight goes back down, but usually not lower than 160. I am not very happy with this, but it is so much better than where I was at and with my previous diabetes, high cholesterol, and high BP, I am pleased with the results. I hope to consider a tummy tuck or panniculectomy along with fixing my diastasis recti (where the abdominal muscles are pulled apart because of having kids). I now know why I see so many middle aged women with protruding bellies. I thought it was a hernia, but it is not. I so want it fixed someday, maybe when my finances are more settled. Are you getting my emails with jokes, etc? You want me to continue or not?
Be well my friend.
Karen

Wow, 8 months???  Really???  Oh GEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!  I do not know if I could be THAT patient!!!  I would LOVE to be 160............ and someday I will be there.  I know that this is a marathon, not a sprint, so I am TRYING hard to be good with my eating habits, protein first....... also getting in my fluids.  My vitamins and protein shakes are second nature, so really, not "trying" to achieve that, and be patient.  I am very happy with 210, that is for sure.  I am playing between 211-218, and have been since mid-March, when my stall started.

I will be having my hernia surgery in August.  Yes, I am getting your e-mails as well.

Hey Jamie! You must be going nuts.

I don't know if this will hel*****t, as I haven't had my revision yet (in the middle of a move and just now getting my hypothyroidism under control...along with all the other health issues I had to deal with first...but you don't want to hear about that. It's boring.), but when I had my RNY I relied a lot on ketosis strips. This was a holdover from my Atkins Diet phase, and I found the strips to be very helpful. Using the strips was like having a window into my body. I knew if the strips were a light purple I needed to cut back on carbs, and if they were dark purple, but I hadn't lost any weight, I needed to keep doing what I was doing and just give my body time to catch up.

You can get the strips at just about any pharmacy, and to save money, you can get the strips in half lengthwise.

Try it, it might help you get a better idea of what's happening to you.

Oh, and one more thing. Being on your period will knock you out of ketosis faster than...well, just really fast. All bets are off when the ol' monthly rolls around.

Thank you for the tip, Lynda!!!!  I had seen you post about the strips & ketosis, but just never really ubderstood, until now on WHY they were important............. The window into the body............. GOT IT, now!!!!!  I GET IT!!!!  I had an enometrial ablation in November, and no period since December.

I am SSSOOOOOOO very glad that you were able to get the thyroid figured out, that is one hell of a journey for you, chickie!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Jamie,
I had a revision also (rny to ds) and hit a stall for two months. The weight loss picked up again when I changed things up like more protein and excercise. Good luck on your journey...........Kenya

Kenya,

THANK YOU so VERY much for the insight!!!!!  I know we all have stalls, I understand that is the body's natural way of doing things.  I get that.  But since we are RNY to DS revisions, my thinking is that "We are a little different" in that area.

That you again for the MUCH NEDED insight!!!!

Hi Jamie,

You are doing so well.  First off throw away that darn scale!!!  Remember your body has to catch up.

I know for myself, when I eat more (more proteins, veggies and less carbs) I tend to lose more weight.  When I don't eat much I notice the scale won't budge I may gain.  Remember your weight will fluctuate daily.  Just make sure you are getting in those proteins, vits and water and the scale will definitely move.  I bet you lost a lot of inches.  Have you measured yourself.

Don't beat yourself up, you are doing well.

I'm a virgin DS'er and I'm currently in a 6 week stall.  I feel your pain!  I'm sending positive thoughts your way!
