XPost - Determining if RNY to DS Revision is necessary ?

Those that have had this revision, how did you and your Dr. determine that it was necessary?
Did you often feel that food was 'stuck' resulting in vomiting?
Were you gaining weight no matter how hard you tried?
I am having an EGD done tomorrow, I am so impressed with the research on DS and believe it may be a healthy decision for me.
Oh, and one thing I am not clear about... if RNY doesn't have the Pyloric valve, but DS does...in a revision situation do they re-create one?

Thanks, I appreciate any info.  Lisa

Lisa,

The pyloric valve is not re-created.  Please see diagrams below.  The RNY to DS, the stomach is re-connected after it is all sewn back together.

I do not explain things well, so look at the diagrams, please.

Did the surgeon opt to take your gall bladder and appendix at the time of your revision? I have read that some do that, and others don't. Just curious

I actually had my gallbadder out a year after my RNY, in 2003.

And, my appendix did come out at the time of my DS in December.

It really varies on the doctor.

I decided what I wanted/Needed then looked for a surgeon. It isn't the other way around.

Yes, I was gaining weight no matter what and felt horrible.

Different surgeons have different philosophies. I had my gallbladder and appendix removed during my revision.

Thanks for your reply Teachmid. Finding the right surgery for us is very tricky when we are looking into a revision because there are so many factors involved. I am very encouraged after speaking with folks like yourself that I am headed in the right direction. You are absolutely right.... I know that ultimately it is my decision to make on which surgery to have and who the skilled surgeon is that will perform it. Getting all the information you can to make that decision is what makes this board so helpful!

Hi Lisa - You probably don't know but I underwent a RNY to DS revision last August, and I have lost about 60 pounds since.  However, it is a very complicated surgery and although I had an experienced surgeon, things DID go wrong.  I'm  attaching a link to my story here -- not to scare you -- but to educate you, so you can continue doing your research.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
