Of course, if you're willing to really travel, you can do what I did and go to one of the best DS surgeons in the world, Dr. Marchesini in Curitiba, Brazil! I emailed and called. He answered but we were disconnected. Does he respond to email slowly? It was weird but des he take his own phone calls?

He usually responds via e-mail within a couple of days at the most. I've never called him from the states, only when I was in Brazil, and that was to his cell phone (which he gave me the number to so I could call if I needed him), so yes, he did answer that then.

He has a yahoo group also, at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/DrMarchesini-DS/info. It's not overly active anymore, but there is still some good information there.

Self pay ... you would be best to obtain a loan from personal resources vs. some of the commercial options out there for medical loans. Nobody will know what you will / if you will get approved until you try. I don't know of any surgeon offering their own payment plan if that is what you were thinking.

Good luck. Also ... not sure of your history but are you going self pay due to an insurance denial? There is always the option in fighting with appeal. Many have had success that way. Some also get jobs based on their insurance plans. Check out all your options.
