Whey/Lactose intolerant after surgery. Anyone else?
Just wondering if anyone else developed a whey/lactose intolerance after having surgery.
It took me a while to figure it out since I was fine with both before surgery. Whey absolutly kills me with bad stomach pains and extreme diareah and lactose does the same without the stomach pains but very bad gas. I religously read lables now since the by product whey is in so many items. Anyone else develope this type of intorance after surgery?

Lactose in regular milk products, for sure. The whey, not so much. lactose is minimal in whey protein isolate. You can run into trouble with some brands of protein shakes that use milk protein or other combinations.

I'm right there with ya, Dana. And it think the whey thing is getting worse, cause now I am having trouble eating cheese curls. I can eat a small amount of Mozzarrella or Provolone now. In the beginning it was only cheddar that I could eat. Also, now sugar seems to give me gas and it never bothered me before. Boo Hoo!
Me me me! A lot of people have trouble with dairy and flour products (bread, pasta, etc.). I don't drink dairy, and I still felt gassy/bloated/and had bad diarreha constantly. I figured out (like so many Americans) I have a gluten intolerance because when I go Gluten-Free I feel fantastic and I'm not all gassy/bloated/have bad diarreha! For people who are gluten-free, try Udi's white bread. It's better than real bread, I swear!!! I don't like Rudi"s white bread... it tastes like plastic yeast! Yuckyyyyy. But Udi's GF products are fantastic!!! Ooh ooh ooh! And also, if you love pasta, eat Homeland spaghetti/pasta noodles. It tastes like actual pasta! It's fantastic!!!!!!!!!! And I'm really really weird/picky about tastes and stuff. Trust me. For so long I wanted to try GF bread but I was scared (since I'm so weird and picky), but it's Udi's brand AMAZING. I'm in love!!!!!! (so is my husband! He loves it!)

Yep! I was back in the hospital getting re-hydrated 48 hours after they let me go home. Lactose intolerance from straight whey protein shakes had run me dry!
In her pre-op seminar, Dr. Inman says that many DSer's are LI immediately post-op, but it eventually goes away, *unless* you're LI to start with.
At 3 years, I can do straight milk, but it was lactose free or about 5 Lactaid pills per glass in the beginning.
Here's the kicker...I was LI when I had surgery! Must be the probiotics!
Whey Protein Isolate was the answer for me...and not just shakes...Learn to read labels for EVERYTHING! I loved the fruity "taste like Kool-Aid" Isopure drinks, and Syntrax Nectar in Fuzzy Navel!
