success stories...???
Ktbug,
no need to be nervous, all will fall into place. Relax during surgery prep, drift off to sleep, wake with the realization you have a new life ahead of you!!!!!
Thats just what I did, and used the pain pump the first night. the nurse had me up waling to the bathroom the first night. the second day I was walkng the halls, the 3 rd morning, I was able to go home. One thing I didnt expect was esophageal swelling limiting swallowing water, causing a painful spasm. I think this happened to me because of my difficult intubation due to my anatomy curving more than usual. A small dose of valium helped relax the spasm enabling me to sip pain free. I didnt eat in the hospital, was not hungry at all. Fluids are more important than food at this point.
My lap surgery was great for less pain recovering. Only one to two incisions hurt- the one they took out my stomach section, it has interior stiches. Hurt getting out of bed, but no pain laying still. I suggest wearing slippery lounge pants in the hospital to make sliding out of bed easier. I chose black ones so blood drops wouldnt show. My incisions were sealed with a type of glue, not stiched. They didnt drip or ooze.
I was too worn out to do much of anything in the hospital, bu****ch TV, and sleep. As soon as I could swallow pain pills the third day, they began the release process. Walking the halls is very important to prevent blood clots. Go many times a day. I walked in the hospital wearing provided slipper socks with tread bottoms, less slippery than slippers from home. Use the breathing spirometer to clear your lungs often.
My husband and daughter were with me at the hospital for the entire day of my surgery. If your family members come with you, tell them to bring things to keep them busy. My guys said it was a long tiring day, but they would'nt have missed it for the world!!
Bring a small light weight soft fleece lap blanket, I was cold with chills post surgery. The soft warmth was comforting to get to sleep, and cover part of my face from hallway light. Used it folded for an arm rest in bed. Its good to fold up between the seat belt on your way home to protect your incisions.
At home my tastes changed drastically. nothing tasted good-but metalic, due to anesthesia. It lasted 2 months. All the pre prepared foods I made were useless. Even jello tasted bad!! Hot meal replacement protein broth( order on line- Diet Direct or Bariatric Choice) went down easier than cold shakes. Staying hydrated is more important than food at this point. Dont worry about eating. I drank most of my meals for the first month. the premade shakes are easy to grab. I now use Premier Protein shakes- vanilla is good before bedtime, the choco will keep you awake. Its 30g protein, 3 carbs. I found it at Sams.
You may feel cold at home, its an on going issue with this surgery for some. Have a heating pad, or heater blanket close to grab.I still use mine- 6 months out. good luck with your surgery!!!!

PatXYZ I have read all the threads and did u actually go to this surgeon then how are u to know what he is like you don't you are just going by what others say I actually know real life people who have gone to him people I know personally! And who says the people who wrote those reviews aren't working for the other surgeons to discourage people to go to him so they can get more business ???? In all do respect I stated over n over I wrote this topic to discuss the actual DS it's self not opinions on surgeons thank u
I got on this site for encouragement n positive energy it would have been different if I ask please everyone state your opinion bout my surgeon but I didn't I'm very hurt in the way some of you have treated my post I really thought this was a positive site but all most of u are doing is focusing on one thing n bashing it and not one of you has ever had surgery with him u all are doing this by just words of other people not from experience it you want to be hateful do it to someone else I'm hurt enough by having to have surgery to loose weight I need no more emotion hurt so please stop

That's the same thing that's happening here, re your surgeon.
I think the DS is the greatest blessing I've ever had, and I think it's great you're seriously considering having it. BUT---becaue the DS is so very powerful, it can also be very dangerous---and I'm not just talking about surgical risk here. The DS demands some things from you, forever, and education about how the surgery changes you is one of those things. If you're not willing to be educated, and willing to continue to research and learn for the rest of your life---DO. NOT. GET. A. DS.
Frankly, the close-mindedness you're showing toward becoming educated about your surgeon's history tells me you may not be someone who can cope with the DS, long-term. I'm not saying this to hurt you---more than anything, I want your WLS journey to be a safe, healthy one. Please do more research before you go under the knife.

Honey, let me be clear. No one is being mean. We've all been there, obviously, or we wouldn't be wasting our time responding to you.
Your surgeon has a rotten track record. You are about to undergo a significant surgical procedure, one of the most difficult there is to perform. We are concerned that you will die.
We've seen it happen before. We've lost friends.
You have time to make a better decision. We IMPLORE you to do so.
