Does everyone who has the DS come home with feeding tubes and draining tubes? And if you do, and you had to travel for your surgery, who takes these out?

I didn't have a feeding tube just 1 drain. The PA at my surgeon's office took it out at 10 days post-op.

But I will definitely have to travel to get the surgery done...will I go home with the tube or will they take it out before I go home. My worry is that I will go home with it and then I'll  have to find someone here to take it out.

I think, when you travel, they want you to stay close by for 14 days. They will remove the drain before you travel home.

I didn't have any tubes when I went home.  I was in the hospital for 7 days.  Everything was out by the time I left.

I just asked the PA at my doctor’s office about tubes, Friday.  He said that the surgeons there almost never put tubes in anymore.  He also said some surgeons are still using them on every patient for every surgery.  Don’t know if this helps, but thought I would through it out there.

I had a RNY to DS revision and traveled to CA for surgery (I'm in OK). I was discharged with 2 jp drains and a feeding tube. My surgeon took out the drains at about 10 days and I pulled my own feeding tube at 6 weeks with his ok.

I never had a feeding tube and my drains were pulled the third day after surgery (what a feeling that is - you have to experience it).

My DS was done via Lap and so I walked out the next day with butterfly bandages over where my ports were but that is it.
