My understanding is that Dr Rabkin's follow up program, whi*****ludes labs and vitamin advice, is one of the best. Hold tight, see what he suggests and also see Vitalady's starter program for the DS. www.vitalady.com  Most of us do have to take a lot of vitamins...and I mean a lot. See Vitalady for an example.

yea best just to follow the doctors advice and make adjustments after you see your labwork...I am taking 2 multi-vites and 2 catcitrates a day and so far my labs are good...so im pretty happy with that

That's a recipe for disaster with the DS. Most surgeons know squat about post-op supplementation needs. It's much easier to avoid a deficiency than to fix one. DSers can become very, very ill following the bare bones advice of their surgeons. There is no way you can be getting sufficient A and D from just a multivit. I'll be taking something inbetween the ASMBS and Vitalady schedules and adjusting based on my labs.

my labs are within normal limits...and my surgeon knows whats up with this surgery thank you very much....and he dont just slam you will a million dollars worth of supplements on a whim...look at your labs and supplement what you need....thats the best way....dont just take a handful of pills just because someone who sells pills tells you that is what u must do....everyone is different...your supplementation must be individualized or else you are ******g money away

Just you wait.

And what does within 'normal limits' even mean? What's their trend? Do you even track them?

I'm talking about the minimum advocated by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Vitalady's recommendations are much higher, but you're not even getting the ASMBS minimums. If you'd rather wait until you're sick and then try to dig yourself out of that hole, you're free to do it. I'll continue to advocate to anyone with half a brain though that it is much better to avoid deficiencies with smart supplementing from the beginning. I hope you're still pleased with your frugality when you're sick.

Hi Steve, I know you are not that far out. Keep a close eye on your labs, because I promise you will see downward trends. I am not even a year out and I am already seeing downward trends and I am one of those people you say are "******g money away", Why do you think the vets that are left here are trying to warn you?? Simply because it is easier to keep you labs from tanking than it is to fix them. Nobody here is trying to get you to spend money needlessly, they are trying to keep you ALIVE!  "dont just take a handful of pills just because someone who sells pills tells you that is what u must do"  That someone isn't just someone who "sales pills" she is a  WLS patient herself, she knows her stuff, and may be someone you will need in the future. She has saved many people from making bad choices.  Good luck...
