Having a hard time
I am just over 5 months out and only down 50 lbs. (My mom today said, "well, you should be down 100 at 5 months :( )I am having a difficult time with food since Christmas. I did so well before and allowed myself to have a few treats around the holidays - bad idea. I am always hungry and it seems like all protein should be wrapped in some sort of carb laden bread. I got the vitamins down and am experimenting with different protein. I am exercising 3 or more times weekly. I need to increase water. How do I stay full and escape the carb monster?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Jennifer

Thanks Eileen, I guess I am going to have to go through withdrawal again but I can get through a few days... I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to allow myself some treats at Christmas, I was doing so well. When I shop tomorrow I will look for new protein options.
Thanks again : )

10 pounds a month is about right, actually. Plus you've had previous WLS so that has an affect. Add a protein shake or 2 to help with cravings. It may help to go carbless for a few days to break the habit.

Thanks Gina, I will add another protein shake, it's an easy option. I will also plan a menu in advance for a few days to purge the carbs. Not sure if it would be best to try during work days or on weekends...

Yes - you need to keep in mind that you are a revision, and revisions historically lose "slower" than virgin WLSers. 10 lbs. a month is nothing to sneeze at, though!!
Are you doing any protein shakes? The more protein you get in, the "fuller" you're going to feel. Plus, it helps with minimizing muscle mass loss, in my opinion. I was losing a ton of muscle mass during my rapid weight loss phase until Gina told me to start sucking down those shakes. It has helped my labs, I feel better, and I actually still have muscles even though I don't really work out (other than my really physical job).
One other thought is to try to start adding in some more complex carbs, especially vegetables. They help with vitamins, they help you add variety to your diet, and they help add fiber which in turn helps make you feel fuller.

Hi Heather
I currently hate my premier protein shakes but tomorrow when I get paid I will look into another option for shakes. I do need something to make me feel fuller, I will try adding a vegetable a day and budget the carbs I'll need for that.
Thank you!

You've already had great advice about more protein and less carbs, so I'll just comment that your mother is wrong, your weight loss thus far is just fine, and if she isn't pleased that you're 50 lbs lighter that says far more about her than it does about you. Some people are just determined to be negative and unhappy. Some are determined to sabotage others, or to make other people feel badly about themselves.
Or she could just be a concerned parent, I have no way of knowing, but I've seen enough of these comments both here and irl to question her motives. There are a lot of people who are unhappy and don't want anyone else to be happy either.

It's hard to deal with her disappointment. Yesterday was the first time that when she asked how it was going that I told her the truth (She's in Florida for 6 months so I haven't seen her in months). I lost pretty quickly when I had RNY in 2001 but gained it back even quicker. I think she is comparing it to that. It's funny though that I was shopping and I had my hair up in a pony tail, my best friend walked right by me. She was shocked when I called her name and she realized it was me. I guess that says a lot. I try to keep the good / successful points in mind.

Jennifer,
tons of good advice ! Ditch those carbs and increase protein and fluids ... things will move. If you can't do it on your own, seek some therapy as to why your sabataging your foods. Bet your can do it, just make up your mind to best this !
