I've never had major surgery before so I'm scared of the complications....reading some of the posts on this forum aren't always reassuring. I just hope that I'm mentally ready for the massive changes I'm going to have to go through. It is so hard to make sure you're doing the right things. I'm also currently watching My 600 lbs Life which isn't helping but I'm sucked in. I'm a basket case.
I never had major surgery either when I had my DS - the biggest surgery I had was dental and that is not quite the same.
There are many many happy, healthy DSers out there. I know the feeling of the doubt and heartache that goes with the decision to have WLS. Its not easy. But the tradeoff at the end of the day is worth it.

First of all. Deep breath! :)
My DS was my first major surgery as well (knee surgery as a teen, tooth removal), so it took some "guts" as it were to take that leap. For me, so far, I am so thrilled with the results, the daily living and food options, etc.
It is important to realize that there can be complications and that it is not always "easy", but I think it's also important to have a positive mental attitude going in. Keep your eye on the prize and when you have those moments of "what was I thinking", just know that it will very likely get better and those moment will come less often, and then one day you'll realize you hardly have them and that your health and your happiness is improving in leaps and bounds. It will happen. Hang in there!

Relax, everything is going to be just fine!
The risks of the surgery are way lower than the risk of morbid obesity. All you need is good confidence in the surgeon and his team, it's important to get to surgery with a relaxed mind. The surgery will help you mentally as well as phisically, you should start a therapy if you haven't already and start that process asap. The surgery is the easy part, we're our worst enemies, fighting our own mind is the hard part.
The surgery will give you a temporary advantage to win that fight once and for all. I'm only one week post op, I haven't had anything to eat in two weeks (only liquids and protein drinks) and for me that's way way harder than going through the surgery itself. Don't let fear get you down, if we could loose weight naturally we would have. This is the only option for us! Hang in there. Hope that helps a little. Good luck to you.
