Something Isn't Right With My DS
I am two weeks post op. I feel there is something very, very wrong with me.
First of all I don't think the stomach size I was told I would have is what I have. I am positive I could eat the same size meal I did pre op right now if I allowed myself to. I do not eat more than 6 ounces at one meal and have yet to feel any fullness. I stay absolutely hungry! I did see the surgeon and he said some people cannot feel any restriction but that usually changes. I doubt it will change with me because I am positive he did not give me the small 5 - 6 ounce stomach he claimed as I now can eat 6 ounces! More than the stated stoma size!
Also I have had only TWO bowel movements since surgery. I know that isn't right! I talked to Dr about this and he said I should now be able to go since I will be taking in more fat. He upgraded me to the soft diet stage and added I may try anything but take very small bites. It's been a couple of days and there hasn't been any change whatsoever in my bowels. There is rumbling and I have gas but that's the extent of it. I need to release the food!!! I'll gain weight not lose!
So here I am; I can eat much more than I should at this stage and am having zero BM's. I can't be malabsorbing anything!! I didn't go through such a huge, major surgery to have to diet the rest of my life!!!
Yes, I have the top DS surgeon in the U.S. as my Doctor. He did have his associate assist with the surgery and I am wondering if he allowed him to do the bulk of it and the guy goofed! How would I find out? This just isn't normal from anything I have read at all! I have searched out this proceedure for over a year and knew what to expect, but I surely didn't expect this! I went through all of this for nothing it seems!!!
Has anyone had anything similar happen with them? I am so depressed knowing I am going to have an uphill battle on my hands proving there is a serious problem. Two weeks out and nothing is right. I have a feeling I'll be in the hospital soon if my bowels don't move. Constipated as a new DS'er?! Hungrier than ever?
My concern would be that you may not be feeling the restriction or fullness because your nerves have been cut in surgery and that you are going to hurt yourself by eating so much. You should probably speak to more vets about this, but you won't find them here. I'll send you a PM for another board where you'll find more advice.

The thread includes Vitalady's constipation relief plan.
FWIW I'm more versed in the VSG world (I'm sleeved but pre-DS) and I'm aware that a small percentage of sleevers never lose their hunger. Others only lose their hunger for 3 or 4 months. Eventually hunger returns for pretty much everyone. Please try not to feel too down about this... the inevitable has happened to you sooner.
