So confused-please help. Is an upper EGD same as Upper GI?
OH Family: Is an upper GI series different than an upper EGD. I was just told my Dr. K's office that I need one done although it says on form that he would do it when I arrive in CA. According to my insurance website I had an Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy including esophagus, stomach, and either the duodenum and/or jejunum as appropriate; diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen(s) by brushing or washing (separate procedure). Is this an upper GI Series or is this an EGD?

An "Upper GI series" could refer to x-rays with or without contrast material such as barium. The best answer will come from your doctor's office since they know how they're using the term "upper GI series". We can just guess.
