yes, you can have narcotic pain killers in mexico
Hi all,
I was reading back some threads last week and came across one where information was given about postop pain in Mexico.
Some people were under the impression that in Mexico you cannot be prescribed narcotic pain relievers after surgery, only non-narcotics.
This scared me since I've had previous surgeries and know my body's reaction to being cut usually does require some stronger pain meds to do the required walking post-op.
Since I am planning to have my DS in Mexico with Dr. Ungson, I went ahead and asked about this just in case I would need to have my Dr. here prescribe me something stronger. This is the reply I received:
" Hi Lisa, I did double check with Dr. Ungson last night but I forgot to put it on the email, he said that narcotic pain relievers can be prescribed for patients after surgery if it's necessary, we've had patients that asked this before, we are not sure where the rumor came from but we've never had a problem with this issue in the past. "
This may be a non-issue for most but I know there are people, like me, who have fear about postop pain and didn't want anyone to think you would possibly be in more pain after surgery down in Mexico than in another country.
Take what you like and leave the rest :)

Becareful coming back across with them that the kicker. I know someone that had skin removal in Mexico. Had narcotic prescribed pain killers that you can get in the US, but US does not/wont recognise the mexican script. US Border Guards gave them all kinds of crap. Think thats why so many have non-narcotic pain meds.
