First iron infusion
It has taken a few weeks to convince my internist but today I recieved 125mg of ferrlecit IV over 1 hour. No problems or reactions with it. I was however disappointed to learn that they had not planned on doing a series of 3-5 as most people here get so I will have to wait a week or 2 and redo my iron studies to determine if I should recieve another. It is frustrating to be told that the target ferritin is 50( I am in canada so that is low end of normal) I don't want to be barely ok, I want to feel energetic and less irritable. Is that too much to ask?

start 315lbs lapband feb2006-196 lbs night Reflux bc esophageal dilation,216 lbs band replaced may 2008. Gained up to 286lbs still reflux and regurg Ds March 2011 cw 165 lb

Wow, I wonder if I'd benefit from an infusion.
My ferritin, even with heavy supplementation with VL iron and Proferrin, is only 58 - up from 28 before surgery. But my PCP said that between 22- 291 is normal so I couldn't have one before I had surgery last January.
I'm changing insurance soon, maybe my new PCP will allow it.
Just wondering - how much do the ferritin levels normally go up with a single infusion?

You are probably headed there. It is hard to get the doc's to understand that barely normal shouldn't be what they are aiming for especially if you have symptoms. I have cold hands and feet , fatigue and irritability. do you have symptoms?
