Both my Mom and I swear by Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture (white bottle).  It's not greasy but it seems to absorb really well.  Eucerin is also very good.

Another thousands-year old healing salve is goldenseal and myrrh (sp) powders, mixed together and dusted lightly onto wounds.  It has a drying effect, so works especially well on seeping wounds, or baby's umbilicus after birth.  Things you want to dry out. 

I have used Neutrogena Bath oil after showering for years for dry skin.

For the scars, I got a bottle of pure vitamin E oil - you can find it by the vitamins at the store.  Seems to work well, that's what my surgeon recommened to use.
