I personally do not care about throwing away food.

DH does. he was raised to Clean his plate and he grew up in communist Russia and remembers times when there was no food.

He has gained 15 pounds since i had surgery. He eats most of what i do not finish, which is a lot b/c even b4 surgery i would take a ton of food on a plate and not eat it, now it is even worse. I guess i sort of rely on the fact that he will eat it so i do not think about portions really.

I still cook for him and I. So if i make an omellete I make the same omellete but he gets way more food and i eat about 4oz of it only.

Those of us who are single obviously know how to cook for one. Learning portion control is all part of the process (old habits die hard).

Use a smaller plate. I never use a dinner-size plate. That will force you to put less on your plate. If you have to, measure and/or weigh your food. It's the only way to learn exactly how much is 1 ounce, or half cup, etc.

Even at almost 9 years post-op there are always small containers in my refrigerator.
