Hi everyone! I am trying to help talk a coworker out of giving up on the DS because Federal Blue Cross denied the DS saying her BMI of 42 is too low for the DS. She is going to get the RNY if I don't do something. I know whe will not be happy with that.

Paula posted that she fought the same thing and she has federal BC BS. I desperately need to reach her asap because my friend is giving up fast and Dr Inmans office isn't being helpful.

Thanks!

I am a lightweight too and have no co-mobidities. I was approved by Federal BC BS. You just have to get your requirements in and fight! Thats all, she can do it! If you want her to tell her to PM me on more info with the insurance stuff. Or to post on OH DS forum I know a few other people who have the same insurance.

Thank you I will PM you. She isn't on OH yet. Unfortunately, I heard from Paula and she didn't offer much info and even said that the RNY is better than nothing. I was bummed to hear that from a DS veteran who I respected.

You have given me hope that I want to pass on to her. :) I will PM you my contact info. Would love to hear from you when you can.

Thanks again!

Send a PM to Diana Cox, she is the insurance Guru.  She can definitely help.  Good luck to your friend and PS, BMI was 41.5 when I was approved for DS.

Here is a link to a study posted on the DS Facts.com website.  They took over 800 patients, with a BMI of under 50 and averaged them out, and did this study.  Maybe your friend should take a look at this study.

Hope this helps her!!!!
