WHY is this?????

Does it seem that I ALWAYS gain a little weight before I lose it? Like I'll gain 4 lbs and hold on tho them for about 5 days and then over a couple days I'll lose the 4 and 2 or 3 more....Anyone know why that would happen? I wouldn't question it but it happens all the time...it's weird...lol

I see some folks post that that's how they lose. Some have a steady straight line down the scale, some have stair steps and some have that crazy little bump before they lose. Maybe it's your pattern.

Yes...it's definitely a pattern for me...I just hate to see the scale moving in an upward direction...it really scares me...a couple of times its gone up like 6 lbs and I'm like oh ****!! Is my DS broken? and then it comes off and I feel like a big baby...lol

This happens to me as well.  Not sure why though. As long as it comes off, I won't complain. Even though it does freak me out.  Lol

Nothing feels better than being able to go into ANY store and fit their clothes!

 I've always looked at my weight loss like a bouncy ball going down stairs. 

Slight bounce up, then a bigger bounce down till it hits a step (plateau) then up a little before the next loss. No idea why it works that way.

That's just how mine is too...but I do end up on the losing end ...so I guess whatever works

Here is a great bit of info from one of EN's links in her signature:

"Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored."
