Blood donation - able to?

I think I asked my doc's office once upon a time but I can't remember what they said (or even if I asked).  I dont' recall actually asking my doc though, maybe just office staff.

I was always borderline with my iron with the donation iron test pre-DS.  I successfully gave once after DS (between 3 and 6 momths out).  Tried to donate again after that I failed the iron test.  I've been better about taking my iron since then but have not tried to donate again. 

I donated a couple of times, but now I'm a bit iron saggy, so probably won't be able to any more.

From my understanding its not a good idea. If I had a friend or family member that needed it right away I would, but not for a regular blood drive.
