Psych eval-Tri state area recommendations

Hi all,

I have been trying to find a psychiatrist all morning who does pre op psych evals for bariatric surgery and I keep getting shut down. Is anyone familiar with a psychiatrist in tri state are (ny, ct, ma) who does this? 

I don't have any names for you, but my surgeon's office gave me a long list of psych's that did that. Maybe try calling your surgeon's office to see if they can help with that? If not, I know there's more than one bariatric program in your area, you could always call them and ask who they recommend.

 My surgeon is in CA and I am in CT.I even tried calling local bariatric programs and they seem to only want to make appts with people getting surgery in that program. Called my insurance and they have no suggestions except to say call each and every name in the provider directory. I am on page 10. Ugggg but thanks for recommendation. 

I was going to get my DS in NY but got denied by my insurance. As a self pay I wanted the best so I switched to Dr. K in California. I know you can get it done at Mt. Sinai and I doubt you would have to be part of their bariatrics program. How unethical would that be? Here are some of the people they use:

Dr. Martin Drooker 212- 876-6820 (psychiatrist)

Dr. J. Joseph DeSimone 212-977-4396 (clinical psychologist)

Dr. DeSimone has a pre and post bariatric surgery support group that is non-Mt. Sinai sponsored so I imagine he works with all bariatric patients. He also does the psych evals that are necessary to get approved for surgery. He might be your better option but you should call both and see which you prefer.

I know that you are in CT... You can try Dr Jennifer Ferrand... She works out of Dr Tishlers office, but she also has a practice out of the Institute of Living so she may take you as a patient... She did my eval when I had my lap band... It may be worth giving her a shot...
