Woot! Hubs and I are headed to Nashville for a relocation trip. We're torn between Nash and the Big D, so we're going on site to check out apartments and neighborhoods. But more than anything, I want the one thing you can't get in NYC- GOOD BBQ. I have never had great bbq in my life, and my protein and fat craving DS stomach is growling over the prospects in Tennessee. The closest I've had to "Good" is from Dinosaur BBQ, but from what I hear it doesn't hold a candle to what you can get in the South.
We were thinking of heading to Martins at Nolensville, it was featured on triple D- they smoke the whole hog, that got my attention.

I have never been to the one in Nolensville but have heard good things about it. Jack's downtown is great, the Neely's from Food Network have a BBQ restaurant in Metro Center that is pretty good and fairly inexpensive. Lots of good places around here. If you are thinking of relocating check out the counties that boarder Davidson (Nashville). Davidson county does not have too many good neighborhoods that are affordable anymore, but there are a ton of bedroom communities in Williamson, Wilson, Rutherford, Sumner and Cheatham counties that are only a half hour commute to Downtown. I hope you have fun on your trip here

Thanks!
Jacks was one of the places we have on the list in case we're in Downtown during the trip to do some sightseeing. We're checking out Brentwood and Franklin outside of Nashville for re-location, during the trip we're staying in Cool Springs. I'm amazed by all the choices of great neighborhoods for Nashville, I'm sure we're going to love it. I'll post pictures of the BBQ on a food porn thread!

Brentwood and Franklin are great. Too bad you just missed the leaves turning colors. The hills in Cool Spings were stunningly beautiful. If you are in Brentwood, the most popular BBQ place is Corky's in Maryland Farms. Jack's is great of you get a chnace to go downdown. We have them smoke one of our turkeys every year for Thanksgiving.

YAY! Trip to Nash was great! We focused on Williamson, sadly we didn't have much time to explore downtown. We loved Franklin to death (green, rolling hills and a charming downtown), saw 9 apartment complexes, and the veggies at the farmer's market were picture perfect.
Since our hotel wasn't far from Martins we checked it out.
OMG the hickory smoke... SO DIVINE!!! We don't get smells like that in NYC (just garbage and moldy backed up gutters) since fire codes prevent restaurants from setting up a proper smoker.
If I close my eyes and recall I can literally smell the hickory smoke... We pulled into Martin's parking lot just after they opened, and the second we opened the car door it was like being uplifted on clouds of heaven-scented smoke... The pulled pork was the best we had, and the ribs were very good but just a touch dry (some bbq sauce fixed that)- even still the flavor was amazing and I'd gladly go bac****il I dropped dead from eating too much smoked meat.
It's funny how my stomach just opens up to quality protein, I can really pack it away with a little bit of time.
As promised, here's some food porn:
Even though the focus was the meat, we liked the sides too. The beans and slaw were great.
I can't wait to go back!
