Advice re low vitamin K1

I am 8 months post DS and have finally gotten a vitamin k lab result and it was low. I have been taking 1000micro grams according to vitalady's schedule since my surgery. My E was low as well and I realized I was taking 1 not 2 vitamin E capsules as I should have. So taking 2 now. Do I double up the Vitamin K1 too? If so do I take them together or apart?
Thanks
Joan

I was told to take them apart. My k was 7, I doubled the dose and added k2 now it is 21.  I am sure a vet will chime is soon.

Thanks Staceeann
I also added k2 about 2 months ago. I generally take my pills three times a day have vit E in morning and at lunch and vitamin K1 at night. I read here that we should keep the E and K separate so I wonder when to take the second vit K1. I am glad to hear that the extra pill made a difference for you.

You bet -- take more.  You can take way more if you want.  Pretty safe vitamin to take, over all, considering you don't take any interfering medicines (coumadin, etc).

Don't really know about the together/apart thing.

K1 and K2 are not the same, so in your head, keep the K1 separate. As long as you are not taking any blood thinners, you probably will have to figure out how to fix it your own self. Not many guidelines on K1. I take 2 to reach mid-range and my husband needs 6!

On K2, if you want to help your bones, you'd want it in the MK-7 form. I see ppl talking MK-4 form, but it is not as good, very short half life on the shelf and in the body. So, if you're wanting bone fixin', make it K2 in the MK-7 form. But that will not help your K1 level at all.

As for taking the fat solubles together, I hadn't heard not to take them together, tho they are polar opposites. In nature, they occur together, so I've always taken mine together, personally.

I mean, really, if you follow everything, you'd end up taking every single pill away from every other, so we have to use some reason in spacing our pills to a formula we can really live with.

Thanks Michelle for your advice I very much appreciate this as well as the services of your company. I guess I will add the second K1 with my other K1 in the evening. I am due to have all my labs done again in 1 month. I am not sure what form of K2 I have is it usually written on the bottles ( I bought it in canada)?

K1, PTT, INR can all be measured. I don't suggest K1 in any larger doses without a measure.

K2 is only measured by its result, which is osteocalcin (we want lower numbers).

They're not the same, don't do the same things.

I kinda wonder if MK-4 does much at all since its life is so short.

Emily, Dr E's dietitian, doubled my K2 to 600mcg a day. I think the osteocalcin can be too low as well. Mine was below range the last 2 times. She also recommends MK-7 over MK-4. We got the PCP to take me off Fosamax and will see how the next 2 dexa scans are.

Hi Michele
I had my K1 tested and it came back below normal.
2 months ago my ptt was slightly elevated but my INR and Pt were normal. So do you think 2 of the K1 pils are a good idea?
