As a husband I would not put up with that crap from my mother. I had to tell my mother to leave my wife alone, it hurt her for a little while but their relationship is better today. Maybe your husband  doesn't know how this effects you (after all he is a man HA HA) and has been waiting for a long time to tell momma to butt out. Anyways Good luck.

There is some great advice above! I'm sure I wouldn't do it, but doesn't her attitude make you want to start giving her advice on what to eat and how to lose weight? Ask if she is always drinking her water? Serve only really boring weightloss food to her?

Of course this is a tough situation because of all of the relationship overlays in this setting. Regardless, I believe that it is important for us to make a strong statement about "respect" when this kind of situation arises. That is, do not let folks get by with disrespectful behavior, but call them on it. But we must also be realistic and understand that we have no control over what the other person does with our statements/requests -- in fact I think that it is best to expect NO change in behavior.

So make your statement clearly that you find their behavior disrespectful and therefore unacceptable -- and try to emotionally "move beyond" their response, whatever it is.

Just a thought... hindsight from my 63 years.
