Anyone else would get a straight up horse cussing and cut out. (country way of setting a boundry) However, I understand that this is your husband's mama and I have one of those too.

What does your husband say about this? I can give ya great advice but without understanding the complete dynamic, I cannot.

love love love pretty pixel's response.  sooooo true. our bodies, for whatever shape they are, should not be open for negative discussion.
while we are on the subject....here's one that also gripes the hell out of me.  why do they say.  "oh, and she was such a pretty girl (to be kidnapped, or not get the job, or be denied a scholarship, whatever)  what........girls with lesser beauty can't have a life?  they can't have things happen to them?  they don't deserve the same opportunities and advancements as another woman?  bull****
ok, so yes, i am standing on top of my soapbox right now ranting.  pardon me, i will step down and quietly sulk to my corner.  sorry.   j
ust one of those things in life that really peeve me off.

Not open for any discussion, really, beyond... "You look lovely."  Period.  I don't want to hear "You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SKINNY!" as a compliment either, because that is some hellacious **** that really messes with the heads of women and girls.  These things affect not only who you say them to, but yourself and whoever is listening.

This issue is important to me personally, raising a little girl.  I want to encourage her to be healthy and strong but her body could look a lot of different ways and still be healthy and strong.

RIGHT?!

I totally have been told I was "becoming positively stick like." Is that supposed to make me feel good? especially considering I know my body image is all messed up still (when I was heavy I thought I was thinner, and now that I'm thinner I think I'm heavier than I am.)

Comments about "You look so good now." really screw with my mind too, was I looking like crap before? Did you REALLY need to tack on the "now" portion? I've always had body issues so I definitely over think this kind of stuff, but it's nice to see that I'm not the only one that finds the things people say offensive.  They forget to think before they speak I believe ;)

As for the MIL I am fortunate as well, mine has been nothing but super supportive.  She is full-figured, and although she wouldn't do surgery she didn't criticize my choices.  I hope that things resolve with your MIL, and perhaps she just needs to be told "That's not a very nice thing to say, and this topic is no longer up for discussion."  Sometimes people don't realize how what they say is being taken (although I don't see another way to take those kinds of comments!) She may think she's just being honest and super-cautious for you.  Again... GOOD LUCK!

How about this...regardless of who the ***** birthed she is vile.  Tell hubby that it is alll over with Mommy Dearest then wait until she says the next thing and turn with the sweetest smile on you lovely lips and say:

"Get to **** you hideous old shrew.  If I wanted to hear from an arsehole I'd fart" then get up and walk out and never go back.  You just lost a couple of hundred pounds of tumor right there.....

You actually don't have to have a relationship with her at all.  It is actually that easy.

RIP Mickie aka Happychick.  You will be missed deeply.

I need to send my MIL, who is the polar opposite of everything in this thread, a nice flowery love note.
