My meanie Mother-in-Law

 Wow EN!  You are a rarely blessed woman!  She must be wonderful!  I have yet to meet the mother of a son who does not think there is a woman on the planet good enough for her son, and that includes my very near and dear friends who have sons!  I also, would be most grateful for such a mother in law!  

My MIL has NEVER EVER been anything but positive,loving and supportive. She welcomed me as their new daughter and never turned back.

I like to think of her as God's compensation to me for saddling me with such a mess of a mother (who died when I was 14).

 She sounds envious.  Green eyed monster!   You need to draw firm boundaries with her.  I would treat her like a child.  Be kind, but ignore her bad behavior.  Sounds like you give her too much of your time, attention, and energy!

So, Kirmy,
Are you saying that she should express her displeasure with MIL's comments????

My MIL is the same way.    I've learned to smile sweetly in her face and give it right back to her.  She purposely says mean things to me, but I know when I act like it don't bother me and give it back to her it ****** her off even more!  

Perfect example:
She was against me having any WLS pre-op and recently gave me some of her "old" clothes.  (She was the same size as me pre-op and I have lost over 100 pounds so far.  Anyways I found a pair of 16 petite pants in the bag she gave me. I said, "Oh these are petites these will be way too short on me!" (I usually need talls.) She said, "Well try them on." So I did and came out with them falling off at the waist and they were 5 inches too short. She looked really surprised and asked what size they were and I proceeded to say 16 petites. Her reply, "Oh you don't look like your getting that small." Grrrr....that ticked me off! So I said, "That's okay I'll just give these to good will since they are too small for you."  

Playing the I didn't get what you said or didn't hear you thing always works!    

So did you tell her that?  Mean bullies usually don't quit until someone gets in their face.  

Surely (Shirley!!) you know her well enough to let her know her comments are not welcome.

Or her son can tell her.

Stop calling her Shirley!

So yea, all that and what everyone else said and so....still, how do you usually deal with the mil?

Thing is, we are married to the man who birthed that man and if we've never set a boundry we could turn out to look like  a total ass...let's take it one step at a time...

or you could just do what i do with my m-i-l dont have nothing to do with her. explain it to your hubby that you are not her daughter and if he wants to continue seeing the wench that he can do it with out you. there is no reason to be around unpleasant people life is to short for that.
