Talk about a short notice!

So, after I had done all the work in getting my PCP on board...you know,  about ordering labs and getting him to learn about the DS...I got a letter today from my insurance co telling me that as of October 31st my PCP will no longer be on their "approved" list!

What!?!? That gives me 11 days (not including weekends) to find a new PCP that will be willing to order my labs and learn about the DS (with no predjuices against wls).

I swear, sometimes during this journey I feel like I was/am running an obsticle course!

The only saving grace here is that I worked for 6 years at our local hospital and I know most of the doctors and surgeons in my town personally. I already talked to one of the surgeons at the hospital and told him that I was getting the DS soon and did he know anything about it....in case for some reason I needed to be stablized here until I could get to my DS surgeon. He said he did have knowledge on it, but would learn more about it, just in case. I just love this man! he is such a nice surgeon and since I worked with him, I know he is competent!

But I digress. I will look at who my ins. co will accept, and then hope that I can get in to see the chosen one (lol) before I go in to surgery.

Sorry, I had to rant.  More better now.

Obstacle course indeed!  It's a shame to be shoved around by insurance companies.  I know the feeling well.  I'm having my first meeting with my new PCP on Nov 2nd.  I've heard very good things about him but have no idea what his opinion of WLS (not to mention the DS) is.  Hopefully he lives up to his reputation!  I know the feeling of being "on the hunt" for a good doc.

It's good that you know a lot of the medical folks around town.  That certainly helps on many levels!  Good luck finding a new willing party.  I'm sure you'll find a good replacement.

Thank you, I appreciate your well wishes.  I have a few doctors in mind, so I will call them on Monday. It's just that I feel rushed.

I dont like doctors to tell me how it's going to be.  I do like a doctor who will listen to me, and then suggest treatments. So thoses are the ones I will call on Monday, I just hope I can see the before my surgery so I can make sure they are "on board".

Thanks again!

Good luck finding a good PCP. That is a bummer trying to find one on short notice. Question though...won't Dr V send you a lab script so you can get them done and have them sent to him rather than going through your PCP?

Also, if you're in Maryland, would you be interesting in joining up with the MADS (MidAtlantic DSrs)? We get together every month or so either in Maryland or Virginia and sometimes DC. We have a little Facebook group to help us organize our gatherings and ask questions such as yours. Jillybean has come across a good PCP in Northern VA who will order all her labs.

Gina -- I'd like to join your facebook group and I'd also like to know who jillybean's PCP is. I've never found a PCP, even after almost 9 years. Can you send me a private message.

Someone I work with recommended a PCP to me (not a DSer) and I even made an appointment just to interview him. We talked for almost 30 minutes and everything he promised never came true. The first time I went to him for my labs, he said "oh we can't do those, you'll have to go to the clinic, and why do you need all those labs". I did get the labs drawn but on the next appointment I had to wait over 90 minutes for my appointment.

For the last couple of years I've been seeing Emily in Dr. E's office for my labs since they have finally starting going by Vitalady's recommended labs. I've got all kinds of specialists but no primary doctor.

Hi Gina,

I think I can find a good PCP,  it was just I was frustrated with the short notice...on Friday, none the less, giving me 3 days to seethe before I could start the search.

Dr. Vollenger will probably order the first set or two....I'll check on that when I see him next. But I'd still like a PCP that's "on the team" so to speak.

I would love to join your group but I am in South Carolina.

Thanks!
