Iron Carbonyl
Ok, I just have to check with you all to make sure I am doing the right thing. The iron I was taking was upsetting my stomach. I found this iron http://www.sundownnaturals.com/products/product.aspx?upc=030768017880
This high potency Iron, supposed to be more tolerable. I read that some take Iron Carbonyl. Some took another kind with it. Can anyone help me? Is Iron Carbonyl ok to take for my iron alone? I am about 2 months post-op so no labs yet.
thank you for any help

This is the type of iron that vitalady uses in her Tender Iron product. Which begs the question -- why not just take that? She already includes the Vitamin C in it and everything.

You should probably be taking about 4-5 of these per day.
Some will take the carbonyl iron with a heme iron -- called Proferrin. Heme iron is the most bioavailable form. It is the kind of iron found in animal meat.
Proferrin is expensive, and needs to be snapped into AT LEAST 2 pieces should you choose to take it. It dissolves pretty slowly, so you want to give it the most possible surface area since it is going to zoom through you like no ones business.

A lot of people seem to have good luck combining the 2 irons.

Kayla,
thank you for your response.
After some extensive reading of the board and the costs (there was a nice heated thread recently), I will be ordering from Vitalady this week. I understand my DS surgeons recommendations are. . .well, crap.
However, I already had a supply of chewables so I wanted to use those up while I got funds together for the starter pack. I couldn't tolterate the other iron and didn't want to wait for my starter pack.
"You should probably be taking about 4-5 of these per day." Thank you, I was going to take 4 but I will actually try for 5. I wasn't exactly sure, I appreciate the help.
Proferrin, yes, that was it---
thank you!!!!!!!!!

Start them slowly over a few weeks. Don't try to take the full dose the first or second week...just add 1 every few days until you can take them all. Carbonyl is spot on.
