What was the first real food you ate after your DS?

Six days post-op I ate cream of chicken soup and watermelon. I think day 7 I added some really soft scrambled eggs. Day 8 I ate a couple small bites of chicken from a chicken sandwich, which I chewed, chewed, chewed to mush. My rule was just anything soft, that I chewed up a lot!

a scrambled egg with a bit of cheese was first for me.  I did have refried beans thinned way down with some broth and sour cream.  It looked gross but it took care of the taste factor which is what I was after anyway.  :)

My post-op protocol called for pureed foods for two weeks, then two weeks of 'soft'---i.e., easily mashed with a fork---foods, then I could try anything I wanted to.

I was exactly two weeks post-op on Christmas Day, and my mom made cornbread dressing and giblet gravy.  Nearly eight years later, I STILL think that was the best food I've ever tasted. (*grin*)

And yes, I'm a 'bad' girl---the day I was four weeks post-op, my brother and his wife were down, and we made...PIZZA!!! Home-made, very thin crust, lots of meats and cheese. I ate a very small slice, and it was HEAVEN.

My soft foods diet started last week at 2 weeks out.  I'm allowed cottage cheese, re-fried beans, Greek yogurt, protein shakes.  I tried a shake cake today, but it was really hard to fini****

The NUT gave a recipe for a no noodle lasagna which is actually really good.  It's 3/4 cup cottage cheese, 1/4 cup spaghetti sauce (I used a low carb vodka sauce), 1 egg, Italian seasonings.  You mix it all up and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.  Then top it with Parmesan cheese.  It was really filling, I got 4 servings out of that.
Amazing to me because before surgery I would had ate the whole thing and still been hungry.

At 4 weeks I'm allowed to start adding in soft meats and cheese, I did try a little thin sliced roast beef this week with a little cream cheese on it.  It tasted so good.

Julie, you made it sound way better with the meat and cheese.  I'll have to try it that way in a couple weeks when I'm allowed to have that.
Yep, so far, doing really good.  I expected the recovery to be harder than it's been.  1st week was rough, but it's gotten much easier.  Even went back to work today.

The first thing I ate was refried beans (pintos) and cheese from Taco Bell! Oh and I ate it ALL!   LOL I had just over a 3 hour drive home from my surgeon's office, so it was justified!    Later that day, I got a chili cheese omlet from coney island...it was 3 meals.

At 2 weeks post op I had a (1) homemade meatball, it was heaven!

I was cleared on soft foods when I left the hospital. This is why I had these things.
