Pinched nerve?
I just posted a few days ago about needing surgery on my neck. It's actually a pinched nerve that is going to require surgery from a neurosurgeon. I had an MRI to confirm. I tried PT but it was too painful. Chiro wouldn't touch me because of my severe arm pain and tingling in my hands. He was the one who told me to get the MRI... and sure enough 2 bad disks. I will be getting an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion of C4-5 and C6-7. My pinched nerve came out of the blue.... and now it requires surgery. Ugh. Good luck with yours. Hope it heals without surgery. You might need a chiro or PT. I am even unable to work because the pain became so unbearable. Its been a week without working... I'm going bonkers. Again, good luck!
You may end up needing an EMG (electromyelogram) as well. This helps to delineate where any nerve impingement may be occurring. If carpal tunnel - it may show slowing velocities in the median nerve. If at the cubital tunnel it would show slowing velocities in the ulnar nerve. Or, it can show signs of radiculopathy (nerve impingement in coming from cervical stenosis or foraminal stenosis in the cervical spine).
I hope your work-up goes well! If it turns out to be carpal tunnel there are wrist splints you can wear at night to help prevent your hand from going numb.
Edit:
Well - I see someone was thinking like I was just a few minutes earlier - sorry for the repeat post! Obviously, I agree this will be helpful.

Pinched nerves can be cervical as well.

it is a spinal simulator that shows which nerves go where and to which organs as well. Pretty interesting. Best to get evaluated either by neurologist or chiropractor and get an MRI if it's interferring with life
Good luck !

Get checked for carpal tunnel syndrome and get a good MRI of your back to make sure it isn't originating from one of your cranial nerves elsewhere.......
As we age we fall the **** apart. Now I know why the old folks about these parts are always so pissed off and whiney. They are in agony most of the time. I think I'll develop an intersting durg habit when I hit 70 to avoid all of that ****
